Harvest - Advanced Lot Numbering for Food – End User Guide

Purpose

The Advanced Lot Number Algorithm module brings powerful, flexible lot number assignment to the Harvest F&B App, enabling food and beverage processors to apply structured, traceable lot numbers without relying on rigid number series. Built on proven functionality from the Harvest Bakery App, this enhanced solution dynamically assembles lot numbers using user-defined logic—tailored to production, procurement, and warehouse operations.

Accessing Lot Algorithm Setup

  1. Navigate to the Item Card in Business Central.

  2. Locate the Lot No. Algorithm field.

  3. Select a predefined algorithm code to assign to the item.

Using Lot Number Assignment

When applying a lot number, the system follows this logic:

  1. Check for a Lot Algorithm Code assigned to the item.

  2. If found, generate the lot number using the Assign Lot No. function.

  3. Note: If no Algorithm is found, the program will default to the standard Lot No. Series.

Functional Coverage

Lot number algorithms work in the following areas:

  • Tracking Lines Page → Function: Assign Lot

  • Purchase Lines

  • Warehouse Receipt Lines

  • Item Journal Lines

  • Output Journal Lines

  • Production Journal Lines

Key Features

  • Flexible Date Options: Supports Julian, Ordinal, D-M-Y, Serial, or MMDDYY formats

  • Dynamic Assembly: Create lots using PO numbers, production orders, dates, line numbers, or constants

  • Sequencing: Append numeric or alphabetic sequences

  • Formatting Options: Include prefixes, suffixes, delimiters, and hour-based timestamps

Business Benefits

  • Eliminates static number series – dynamically generates lot numbers via user-defined formulas

  • Improves traceability and compliance across the supply chain

  • Enhances operational flexibility with configurable date and formatting options

  • Simplifies setup with intuitive rules and a clean UI

  • Future-ready for advanced routing and 3rd-party integrations
